Deaf Patients First as Action Deafness Leads on Sign Language Provision within the NHS!

Website nhs1

A Deaf-led Charity, Action Deafness, one of the UK’s leading providers of services to Deaf and Hard of Hearing people, is delighted to announce its appointment to the NHS’s Shared Business Services (SBS) framework. The agreement framework puts Action Deafness and its partners in pole position to bid for NHS face-to-face and remote sign language interpreting services throughout the UK.

This unique appointment will enable Action Deafness and partners to add value to the patient experience – whether they are attending a GP appointment or experiencing a stay in hospital – and to ensure that, at all times, front line staff are able to provide safe, professional interpreting and communicate with Deaf and Hard of Hearing patients in their communication mode of choice and so deliver excellent care every time.

Action Deafness worked with a group of experienced F2F and VRS partners to successfully enter this framework agreement. The partner organisations will continue to work together to deliver high quality interpreting services for the next four years. Profiles on partners will be featured at a later date.

Craig Crowley, CEO of Action Deafness, said: ‘This is a tremendous achievement for Action Deafness and partners. We’re looking forward to working across the NHS in securing service contracts that will see us provide quality sign language interpreting through which Deaf, Hard of Hearing, deafened and Deafblind people will be able to make informed choices about their healthcare. Suffice to say, we are delighted to be among few Deaf specific service providers on the framework for face to face and remote interpreting services.’
