CEO Vlog: A New Deaf Movement: Connecting Heritage with Digital Access

Craig Crowley, CEO of Action Deafness, shares how we're shaping the future of the Deaf community through inclusive hubs and digital innovation.

"At the BDA Conference in Leeds in July 2025, Jeff McWhinney - former BDA CEO and founder of SignVideo, spoke passionately about how digitalisation has transformed the Deaf world. With the decline in traditional Deaf clubs and centres, the sense of belonging and physical community spaces has changed dramatically.

Yet, out of this change comes opportunity, especially from Action Deafness' perspective. We see the potential for a new Deaf movement - local, open, and inclusive spaces where Deaf, Deafblind and Hard of Hearing people can meet, learn, and thrive in their preferred communication methods, including British Sign Language (BSL).

Our Hubs bring together face-to-face connections and digital access, supporting innovations such as AD 360 online services. This ensures people remain informed, empowered, and included in the digital world.

Our vision is clear: to blend Deaf heritage with modern accessibility, ensuring our community continues to grow stronger, more connected, and truly Deaf-led. Together we're shaping the future of the Deaf movement - one hub at a time."
