Who We Are

Founded in 1897, Action Deafness is a leading UK Deaf-led charity dedicated to providing specialist services and support for Deaf, Deafblind, and Hard of Hearing Communities across the UK.

Our mission is to assist Deaf individuals to live the life they choose and to improve access by fostering cultural and communication solutions.

Our Core Purpose

At our core, Action Deafness is committed to delivering high-quality, specialist, value-for-money services. Our aim is to ensure that Deaf, Deafblind, Hard of Hearing, Blind and people with sight and hearing loss can access their everyday lives to the fullest, with informed choice and equal access to services.

Our Deaf-led Approach

As a Deaf-led organisation (registered in England, Wales and Scotland), we understand the importance of inclusivity, providing specialist, Deaf-specific support rooted in understanding and respect to enable our beneficiaries to lead full and independent lives.

Our Services

Our wide range of services, from Care and Sensory Support to Interpreting, Hubs and Learning, are designed to ensure Deaf communities access the resources they need to thrive.

Our Journey and Growth

With a rich history spanning over 127 years, Action Deafness has evolved significantly.

We originated from Leicester and Loughborough Deaf & Hard of Hearing Charities, and through strategic rebranding and the inclusion of organisations like Deaf Direct and Walsall Deaf People’s Centre, we've become more creative, innovative, and pioneering since 2010.

Our growth has seen us expand from serving the Midlands to reaching communities throughout the UK. We've carefully grown the size and breadth of our services, partnering with other like-minded organisations and recently merging with two other Deaf charities to expand our footprint to include Walsall, Oxford, Worcester, and Hereford.

We retain our charitable obligation to Leicester, Loughborough, Leicestershire, Rutland, Worcestershire, Herefordshire, Oxfordshire, and Walsall, and as a company limited by guarantee, we continue to offer services that benefit Deaf, Hard of Hearing, Deafened, and Deafblind communities throughout the UK.
