DEAFvibe Hub

Established in 2009, DEAFvibe supports Deaf, Deafblind, and Hard of Hearing people, as well as their families, friends, and carers in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent.

We also work with other organisations, locally and nationally, to support the Deaf community.

“Deafness = Equality & Access = Fairness.”

Recognition

The Queen's Award for Voluntary Service (QAVS) was presented to DEAFvibe in 2014, recognising their exceptional contributions to the community.

Why DEAFvibe?

“DEAF” includes those who are Deaf, Deafblind, Deafened and Hard of Hearing.

“VIBE” reflects what having a hearing loss means:

  • Feeling sound through vibration

  • Picking up on vibes through visual cues

  • Sharing experiences of what it is like to be deaf

V.I.B.E. = Visually Inclusive by Everyone.

Our Aims:

  • To empower people to live independently by providing advice and information that promotes independence.

  • To provide a safe, friendly environment where everyone can communicate, support each other and feel like they belong.

  • To create opportunities for individuals and empower them to embrace their experiences of Deafness and Deafblindness.

  • To encourage, support and enable individuals to take ownership in new projects to aid their learning and personal development.

Mary's Story

Going to the hubs means I get access to information that I might otherwise miss. I get useful information from the speakers, and it helps me feel more confident.

Doug's Story

I'm always lonely when I'm at home, but I'm much less lonely when I go to the hub. Going to the hub gives me the opportunity to make new friends and get support.

Lynn's Story

Being part of the community is such a nice feeling, and I'm glad that the hubs let me keep this sense of community.
