Katie's Story

Kwame's Story

Arriving in the UK from Ghana, one Deaf attendee felt isolated with limited BSL. The local Hub became a lifeline, offering BSL learning, friendships, new skills, and boosted confidence. Now a thriving community member, he even joined a local Deaf football team.

Tom's Story

Young, Deaf Tom with learning disability and a troubled past (incarceration, drug misuse) had limited communication and support. Action Deafness' specialist 1:1 communication support during rehabilitation empowered him, leading to Deaf club participation, purpose, reduced reoffending, and improved wellbeing/independence.

Carla's Story

Action Deafness supported Deafblind Carla (40s, Autism) in her transition to independent living (due to reduced parental support) by partnering with housing for an adapted apartment and providing Communicator Guide Support. This improved her daily living and wellbeing through community and relationships.

John's Story

Demonstrating hard work and determination, John developed his independence and confidence, mastering essential life skills like cooking, budgeting, and traveling. His newfound ability to travel independently has remarkably enhanced his social participation.

Matt's Story

Understanding English is difficult for me. Having information in my language (BSL) removes communication barriers and makes things easier to understand.

Lynn's Story

Being part of the community is such a nice feeling, and I'm glad that the hubs let me keep this sense of community.

Mary's Story

Going to the hubs means I get access to information that I might otherwise miss. I get useful information from the speakers, and it helps me feel more confident.

Doug's Story

I'm always lonely when I'm at home, but I'm much less lonely when I go to the hub. Going to the hub gives me the opportunity to make new friends and get support.

Dave's Story

My local Deaf charity was having problems providing care services to my wife. Action Deafness stepped in to support the charity and brought a completely new way of working.

Rose's Story

I felt isolated living in a hearing community. Now I have a Specialist Support Worker (SSW) who I can sign with, who helps me get on with my life as normal and helped me arrange a meeting with my son, it was emotional!

Bela's Story

I struggled to follow meetings when my hearing deteriorated. I was shown different types of equipment which was excellent, and I can continue to contribute to my work place with a new lease of life.
