1:1 Specialist Support

Tailored, individualised support for independence at all ages

At Action Deafness, our 1:1 Specialist Support services provide dedicated assistance for Deaf, Deafblind, Hard of Hearing, and people with sight loss.

Our care services are delivered by Specialist Support Workers (SSWs), many of whom are Deaf and fluent in British Sign Language (BSL), hands-on signing, and the Deafblind Manual Alphabet.

We are a registered domiciliary care provider with both the CQC (Care Quality Commission) in England and the CIW (Care Inspectorate Wales). We offer a free assessment of needs upon referral.

Rose's Story

I felt isolated living in a hearing community. Now I have a Specialist Support Worker (SSW) who I can sign with, who helps me get on with my life as normal and helped me arrange a meeting with my son, it was emotional!

Tom's Story

Young, Deaf Tom with learning disability and a troubled past (incarceration, drug misuse) had limited communication and support. Action Deafness' specialist 1:1 communication support during rehabilitation empowered him, leading to Deaf club participation, purpose, reduced reoffending, and improved wellbeing/independence.

John's Story

Demonstrating hard work and determination, John developed his independence and confidence, mastering essential life skills like cooking, budgeting, and traveling. His newfound ability to travel independently has remarkably enhanced his social participation.
